Missionary
This piece
reflects the interface of indigienous culture and the Christian Faith
as brought to the new world by missionaries. Indian people received the
teachings of Christ and integrated them into their universal view of the
cosmos. The monk's robes double as rockwalls made sacred with petroglyphs.
The monk's torso is adorned with Kokopeli, the flute player blessing the
Corn Mother and a Yakut shamanic symbol of transformation. |
