Blue Mountain, also
known as Dr. Lew Abrams, is a licensed clinical psychologist, with a
private practice in Makawao, Maui. Although psychotherapy and sculpture
may appear unrelated, a look at Blue Mountain's art work reveals his
fascination with what is essentially human and with the process by which
individuals transcend conditioning and taboos to give expression to
their personal uniqueness.
In his quest to express spiritual principles in matter, Blue Mountain has experimented with images of prayer, dance, pregnancy, and sacred sexuality or tantra. He uses the language embodied in the sensual organic curves of the human form because the essential similarities of out biology bridge all ethnic and cultural differences.
By treating the
usually concealed aspects of human experience and anatomy in an innocent
and respectful light, he invites viewers to embrace their shadows and
to give expression to their own deeply felt urges for spiritual union
